The News on Tuesday hosted its annual Alpena News Track and Field Honor Roll Invitational at Thunder Bay Junior High School.

Alpena’s John Kurowski and Alcona’s Kelsey Hansen combined to win five individual events and ultimately walked away with a combined seven gold medals and Male and Female Athlete of the Meet honors.

We say congratulations to both of them and to every athlete who participated in the meet.

Athletes came from across Northeast Michigan and beyond to compete in the News’ yearly contest, which has run for 19 years now.

From relays to sprints to hurdles to shot put to discus to long jump to high jump, all of the students put on their best show, making — as always — a thrilling contest to watch.

Each and every student impressed us mightily and should be proud of their showing.

Thanks to every school for coming out and making the event a great one, and thanks to every athlete for giving it their all.
