Today is Giving Tuesday, the annual celebration of charity that happens the day after the shopping frenzies of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

It’s a day to help make charities as successful as retailers get from the two busiest shopping days of the year.

We urge every reader to participate. Then to tell all their friends to participate, and have those friends tell their friends, and so on.

There are so many to choose from, from the United Way of Northeast Michigan to the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan to the Salvation Army of Alpena to Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan to your church, your friend’s church, your parents’ church.

Those are the folks who help the neediest among us to live with dignity and help them climb sometimes into prosperity. They help your friends, neighbors, coworkers. Maybe they help you.
