We all have to be careful

For months, now, closing in on a year, we have heard about the dangers of the coronavirus and heard that some of us — the elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions or compromised immune systems — are especially at risk of serious complications if they contract the virus.

While that remains true, a recent analysis by News staff writer Julie Riddle of the demographics of the infected shows we all have to be careful.

While Northeast Michiganders who’ve died after being infected have all been elderly, those who’ve contracted the virus span all age groups, with twentysomethings making up the second-largest group of infected residents.

While younger infected people are more likely to recover from the virus, they may pass the virus on to an elderly person who won’t recover.

We all have to conscious not only of the people with whom we come into contact, but of our larger social circles. Your coworker may interact with his or her neighbor, who then interacts with his or her coworkers, who then interacts with their grandmothers.

That’s why it’s so important for us all to take precautions.

Wear your mask in public, covering your nose and mouth. Stay six feet away from those outside your household. Wash your hands frequently and use hand sanitizer when you can’t.

Stop the spread.
