Seeking kindness, understanding, peace in new year
“For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet
For days of auld lang syne”
— “Auld Lang Syne,” by Robert Burns
Boy, what a year.
The virus. Fires. Virus. Economic strife. Political strife.
If you weren’t on edge this year, you belong among the saints.
There were plenty of good people doing good things in 2020, but, more often than not, it seemed like one bit of bad news after another.
Now, as we turn the page on our calendars (make sure to get your 2021 News calendar at the office in downtown Alpena!), we here at The News are hoping 2021 brings us something different.
We’ll take a cup of kindness, yet.
Yes. And understanding. And peace.
And health.
Here’s hoping, dear readers, that 2021 brings you all of those things. And may we, as your community paper, do our part to make it so.
Happy New Year, Northeast Michigan.
Here’s hoping this one’s better than the last.
