MHSAA, think of ways to make things right

We fault no one at the state or federal level for the decisions they’ve made to postpone, cancel, or otherwise limit our daily lives to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

But, particularly for one group, we hope some way can be found once the disease is contained to make things right.

Early in the days that that COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, began to spread across Michigan, the Michigan High School Athletic Association decided to cancel high school sports, including several sports that were in the postseason.

In Northeast Michigan, that included several teams that worked hard to earn their spot in district and regional contests.

For many students, this chance at a title might be their only one.

Especially for high school seniors soon to leave their teammates and head off to college, their time for playing these games could be running short.

We feel for those students and hope the MHSAA might find a way — once it’s safe to do so — to play those games later and give those kids an opportunity to join their teammates in a chance for glory.

Either way, student athletes, you’re champions in our eyes.
