Alpena athletes were dominant this year in spring sports.

Considering the weather didn’t even allow them to get outside and practice until very late in the spring, their accomplishments are even more impressive.

Both the boys baseball team and the girls softball teams were Big North Conference winners.

When it came to the diamond this year, both teams ruled the competition.

The same was true for the boys track team. Not only were they also Big North Conference winners this year, they also dominated the field at the Division 1 regional at Bay City Western recently. It was the first time the boys track team won a regional since 1944.

Many of the team members will be participating Tuesday at the Alpena News’ Honor Roll Invitational at the Alpena High School track complex behind Thunder Bay Junior High School.

Congratulations to everyone for the hard work and teamwork that led to such strong finishes, and good luck in the days ahead as more competition awaits.
