Keep it safe while celebrating the graduates

Graduation season is here, and for grads and families it’s a time to celebrate the achievement. Many people throughout Northeast Michigan will be helping this year’s graduates celebrate with parties and get-togethers.

We want to urge everyone to do that celebrating responsibly. It might seem like stating the obvious, and it might seem like a broken record. However, it can’t be overlooked that many people combine celebrations with alcohol.

First, remember that underage drinking is against the law. So keep drinking away from those who aren’t of legal age. We also hope parents will have the conversation with their children about what to do and not do when it comes to celebrating.

And finally, those who can drink we urge to keep it in moderation. It’s easy to get caught up in the festivities, so if you do have too much to drink find someone else to drive. Or, better yet, find a designated driver before heading out.

This is a special time of year for the graduates in our area. We hope everyone has fun celebrating with them, and they all do it safely.
