Ervin Ritthaler
Ervin Leo Ritthaler, Jr., 39, of Alpena died on Nov. 29, 2025, at Henry Ford Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on Sept. 6, 1986, in Jacksonville, FL, to the late Ervin Sr. and Debbie (Goodwin) Ritthaler, Ervin Jr. grew into a man who was admired for his resilience and his unwavering commitment to his loved ones.
Despite the challenges he faced after losing his legs at a young age, Ervin never allowed his circumstances to define him or dampen his zest for life. His tenacity and positive outlook were an inspiration to all who knew him. He approached every day with a smile and a determination to make the most of his time, whether he was spending it with family, enjoying a movie, cheering on his favorite football team, engaging in a friendly competition through video games, or tending to his “plants”.
Family was the cornerstone of Ervin’s world. He is survived by his cherished son, Ervin Ritthaler III, who was the light of his life and his greatest pride. Ervin’s legacy of strength and love will undoubtedly live on through his son. He also leaves behind his devoted brothers, Matthew (LeAnne) and Devon, who were not only siblings but also his steadfast supporters and friends. His nieces, Mikayla and McKinley, and nephews, Matthew Jr. and Evyn, will miss their uncle’s playful spirit.
Ervin’s story is one of courage, love, and an unbreakable spirit. As we say goodbye, we celebrate the man he was and the enduring memories he has left with us. His laughter, his courage, and his love for life will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of Ervin’s life will be held at McWilliams Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025 with visiting hours from 1 p.m. until a time of sharing at 3 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to the family to assist with final expenses.
