Rodney Michael LaCross, 71, of Nahma passed away October 24th at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay, following a short battle with cancer. He was born August 15, 1954 to Raymond and Iva (June ) LaCross. He was raised in Alpena, Michigan until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1971 where he was stationed in Bayreuth, Germany. Rodney spent 15 years in the military in Germany where he made many friends. He learned to speak fluent German and had a German hunting license. He kept in contact for many years with some of his German friends. He was a tank commander, until he was injured with a piece of steel through his optic nerve in his eye. German doctors saved his eye. He loved being in the military and would have made a career of it. Rod was the third of 8 children, 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Rod married his wife, Tammy on June 5, 2004. They made their home in Trenary until in 2010 when they loaded everything in a motor home and headed to Florida for the winter. They became snowbirds, where they met many wonderful people and made many lasting friendships. They traveled to Maine and as far as Albuquerque, New Mexico. They gave up traveling in 2015 and bought a home in Nahma, Michigan. Rod’s true passion was wood carving. He made many beautiful carvings and didn’t make much money at it but gave to friends and family. Rod is survived by his wife, Tammy, mother in-law, Marylou Trudell, Escanaba, son, Christopher (Indiana), step children, Dawn (John) LaPine of Bark River, Josh (Kristie) Hemminger of Rock, Adam (Mallory) Hemminger of Williston, ND, 8 grandchildren: Hailey and Duaine Williams, Josie and Nevaeh Hemminger, Jared, Charlie, Bella and Romeo Hemminger and his loving dog Tucker. 4 sisters Sandy (Terry) LaLonde, Cindy Szymanski, Linda and Brenda, 1 brother Greg (Diana) LaCross brother in-laws Mike (Ann) Trudell, Doug (Tammy) Trudell. He was proceeded in death by his mother and father, Ray and Iva June LaCross, father in law, Ronald Trudell, grandson, Nelson Williams, sister, Judy Lis, brother, Rick LaCross and brother in law, Dan Syzmanski. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
