George D. Curtis

George David Curtis, Jr. was born in Maine Twp., Minnesota, on January 28, 1935, to the late George and Anna (Johnson) Curtis and served in the United States Air Force. He married Delores Evenson on November 1, 1958. He worked for NOAA in the National Weather Office in International Falls, MN, Sterling, VA, Fargo, ND and in August of 1974, they moved to Alpena where he was the official in charge until his retirement in January of 1990. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, and enjoyed golfing, woodworking, traveling and cruising.

Surviving are his wife, Delores; two daughters, Lori (Marty) Sommerfeld, Lisa (Charles) Bierlein; five grandchildren, Anna (Chris) Brocco, Kate Sommerfeld, Curtis Harrison, Grace Harrison, Donald Sommerfeld; two great-grandchildren, Bradley and Lina Brocco; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by eight siblings, Ruby Thom, Marie Ohren, Leone Weaver, Eleanor Schneider, Keith Curtis, Margery Bugbee, Cleo Langseth, Shirley Anderson.

Memorial visitation will take place at Grace Lutheran Church on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Orth officiating. Cremation arrangements are being handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
