Bruce Thompson

Bruce Thompson and wife Aleta

THOMPSON, BRUCE E., celebrated 94 years of life until July 10, 2025. He lived independently after the passing of his dear wife Aleta in February of 2002. They had been married almost 50 years. Bruce was the father to daughter Pat (Jerry Scott) Browning of Millersburg, and son, Thom (Siobhan) Thompson of Howell. He was the grandfather to Ben (Shelly) Browning and Dan (Kayla) Browning of Clare, and the great grandfather of Willard, Duke, Tripp and Jerry.

Bruce served many years first as a Navy man during the Korean War, a policeman of Royal Oak, a sheriff deputy at Oakland County, and lastly in charge of the Marine Patrol Division of Roscommon County. He also owned Ye Olde Party Store in Roscommon, Michigan where the family, including his mother Nola enjoyed working together growing it to a successful business downtown. His hobbies included anything to do with carpentry, and he had remodeled many homes along the way, including his own. The deal he made with his family was that he would only remodel one section of the family home at a time, which he was good about sticking to. He would finish a project and was then eager to start another. Bruce always loved to be around a body of water, especially Lake Huron, where he had worked at the Lumberman’s Monument, when he was just a teenager, up until late in life, when he made Alpena his home. He even had the opportunity to help with construction at the Middle Island Lighthouse, which he was eager to share his stories about. Bruce was a storyteller, and always had a story or joke to tell, and they were endless.

All those whose lives and hearts he touched will remember him fondly.

At his request, there will be no service or viewing. For those desiring, the family requests in lieu of flowers, to make contributions to the Charity of your choice, or to Medilodge of Hillman, 631 Caring St., Hillman, MI 49746 in memory of Bruce.
