Dorothy Lillian Sharp, 94, of Alpena passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at her daughter Diane’s home surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy was born on March 11, 1931, to the late John and Jennie (Gronicke) Smolinski. She was the proud mother of 11 children. Surviving are Denise (Rick) Smith, Richard (Tina) Sharp, Mark Sharp, Timothy (Sandy) Sharp, Gregory (Lisa) Sharp, Diane (Steve) Burrows, Donna (Greg) DeMann, Robert (Susanna) Sharp, Dawn (Allen) Pettengill, Thomas (Amy) Sharp, daughter-in-law, Paulette (Don) Gilliland. Her legacy continues through her 25 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren who brought her much joy. Also surviving are her sister, Betty Jane Matuzak and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Sharp, grandsons, Joseph Patrick Sharp, Timothy John Sharp Jr.; 9 siblings, Clara Huiting, Edward Smolinski, Philip Smolinski, Martha Wysocki, Helen Stachelek, Mary Rudnicki, Leo Smolinski, Frank Smolinski, and Irene (Chase) Rudnicki.

Dorothy enjoyed reading, watching the Detroit Tigers (she attended her last game at Comerica Park at age 91), and playing cards with family and friends. She was a devout Catholic who dedicated her life to many church organizations. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, its Altar Society, National Council of Catholic Women, Daughters of Isabella, the Rosary Society, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Alpena Right to Life and the Friendship Room. She retired from Alpena Public Schools as a Paraprofessional in 1996.

Visitation will take place at the Bannan Funeral Home on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 3-8 p.m., with the rosary at 3:30 and parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Anne Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Aloysius Okpala officiating.

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to All Saints School or Alpena Senior Citizens Center.
