DIXIE SCHAD WEILER

Dixie Schad Weiler, 97, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, at Besser Senior Living Community.

Dixie was born July 25, 1927, on the farm to the late Leonard and Mary (Knechtel) Kirchoff. She was the eldest of six children. She married Herman Schad on Aug. 6, 1949. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1979, of kidney disease.

On Sept. 20, 1980, she married Kenneth Weiler. His children and grandchildren joined Dixie’s family. Kenneth and Dixie were happily married for 42 years until his passing in December of 2022.

She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she spent many years in the choir and volunteering. In her later years, she was most proud to make bread and butter pickles for their annual sale. She loved going to church and visiting with the people and listening to the pastor.

She is survived by two children, Jean Connon, Terry (Sue) Schad; six grandchildren, Brian (Marcie) Connon, Brenda (James) Aide, Bethany (Michael) Kollien, Marty Schad, Aimee Schad, Becky (Phil) Schad McClurg; great-grandchildren, Brandy (James) Connon, Patrick Connon, Angelica Connon, Dalton Aide, Sasha Aide, Christina Kollien, Tyler (Kelly) Kollien, Alexis Schad and Reese Schad; five great-great-grandchildren, Kai Marie, Jillian, Seamus, Dixie, and Emery; stepchildren and their families, Joyce Weiler, Robin (Scott) Fitzgerald, Bruce Weiler and Jerry Weiler.

She was preceded in death by her son, Roger Schad; son-in-law, David Connon; stepson William Weiler; siblings and their spouses: Leonard Kirchoff Jr., Shirley (William) Sincler, Thelma (Austin) Grace, James (Barbara) Kirchoff, Caroline (Donald) Weise.

Memorial visitation will take place Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church – Alpena from 10 a.m. until the memorial service at noon with the Rev. John Shipman officiating. Arrangements have been handled by the Bannan Funeral Home.
