SAMUEL WALLACE SOUTHWELL
SAMUEL WALLACE SOUTHWELL
May 26, 2000 – June 17, 2024
Samuel Wallace Southwell, 24, of Alpena, passed away on June 17, 2024. Born in Alpena on May 26, 2000, to proud parents Susan Southwell and Gordon LeTourneau, Sam was a cherished member of a large and loving family. He spent his entire life in the community he was born into, forming lasting friendships and touching the lives of many with his kindness and thoughtfulness.
Sam was a graduate of Alpena High School, where he received his diploma in 2018. Following graduation, he joined the team at Neiman’s deli, quickly becoming a favorite among his coworkers and customers alike. His kind spirit and willingness to help others made him a memorable presence. Most recently, Sam worked as a stockperson at Meijer, where his work ethic and friendly demeanor continued to endear him to all who crossed his path.
A true outdoorsman, Sam found peace and joy in the natural world, and took pride in his little place in the woods. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. When not exploring the wilderness, Sam could be found in the kitchen, where his passion for cooking shone brightly. He loved nothing more than to share his culinary creations with friends and family, bringing people together through the universal language of food.
Sam possessed a curious mind and a knack for technology, which led him to build his own computer. This accomplishment was a testament to his patience and ability to teach himself new skills.
He is survived by his loving parents, Susan Southwell and Gordon LeTourneau; his sisters, Stephanie Southwell, Sarah Southwell, and Christina LeTourneau and his brothers, Thomas LeTourneau, Eric Giles, and Christopher LeTourneau. Sam was also blessed with the unwavering support of his grandmothers, Janet Southwell and Avis LeTourneau, as well as his aunts and uncles, Gailyn O’Brien (Bill Osbourne), Greg LeTourneau, Matt Southwell, Don LeTourneau, and Cherie Wisniewski. His life was enriched by the presence of his close friend John Gedeon, and numerous cousins who will all miss him dearly.
Preceding him in death were his grandfathers, Donald LeTourneau and Gordon Southwell, as well as his great aunt and uncle, Beverly and Lloyd Aikens, who held a special place in his heart akin to that of grandparents.
Sam’s absence will be felt profoundly by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, a reminder to be thoughtful in our interactions, and an example of how to live with joy and generosity. His warm smile and gentle spirit will be forever remembered, as will the countless moments of happiness he brought to those around him.
Sam is at McWilliams Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Michaud officiating. Memorial donations can be made to Partners in Prevention.
