RODNEY JAMES MEOAK

Feb. 26, 1952 – May 9, 2024

Rodney James Meoak, 72, of Alpena, passed away peacefully at home on May 9, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on Feb. 26, 1952, in Saginaw, Rod’s life was characterized by his unwavering dedication to his loved ones, his passionate pursuit of his interests, and his kind-hearted nature.

Rod’s journey began as the beloved son of the late Robert and Alta (Walker) Meoak. His early years in Saginaw laid the foundation for a life filled with joy, learning, and an enduring love for his family and friends. Rod’s legacy continues through his cherished family, including his devoted wife, Tina, whom he began dating on Jan. 18, 1975, and married on Aug. 2, 1980. Together, they built a life rich in love and laughter, raising their children Joseph (Samantha) Meoak, Samuel (Bambi) Meoak, Patricia Meoak (Andrew Gamble), and Angela Meoak.

A proud patriarch, Rod saw his family grow with the addition of his treasured grandchildren–Kelli, Deanna, Joseph, Alexis, Jade, Tristan (Alyssa), Olivia, Gabriel, Lillian, Alyssa, and Kameron–who will forever cherish the memories of their doting grandfather. Rod’s siblings, Randy, Richard (Linda), Robert (Tami) Meoak, Suzan (Jim) Bitner, and his brother-in-law Lonnie Meredith will remember him as a steadfast brother, whose guidance and support knew no bounds. He was preceded in death by his sister Dianne Meredith.

An avid reader, Rod’s thirst for knowledge was insatiable, and his love for history knew no end. He could often be found immersed in a book, eager to share the fascinating tales and insights he discovered. Music filled his home with joy, and he was a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers. Rod’s love for the outdoors was evident in his fondness for hunting and fishing, activities that allowed him to appreciate nature’s beauty and tranquility. He had a green thumb, and his garden was a testament to his patience and nurturing spirit. The Fourth of July was a special time for Rod, as he reveled in the celebration of freedom, the spectacular display of fireworks, but most importantly the time together as friends and family.

A celebration of Rod’s life will be held on Friday, May 17 at Wolf Creek Park beginning at 3 p.m. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family.
