MAUREEN ANN DERRY

Maureen Ann Derry, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and partner, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2023, in Alpena, Michigan. Born on Sept. 1, 1955, in Westland, Michigan, to the late Timothy and Violet (Moore) Coleman, Maureen lived a life marked by joy, and love.

In her 67 years, Maureen was known for her kindness and loving nature that touched everyone she met. She had an infectious laugh that could light up a room and a spirit that was impossible to ignore. Her loved ones were always her top priority, and she was a beacon of support and comfort to everyone in her life.

Maureen was a devoted mother to her sons, Jonathan and Steven (Jennifer), cherishing every moment she spent with them. She took immense pride in their achievements and was always their biggest cheerleader. Her love only magnified with the birth of her grandchildren, David, Taylor, Shaelynn, and Hailey. She doted on them and they, in turn, adored their grandmother. Every moment spent with her was filled with love, laughter, and the creation of precious memories.

Maureen shared a profound and loving bond with her life partner of 30 years, Dawn Kowalski. Their relationship was a testament to their enduring love, mutual respect, and shared joy. Together, they found happiness in the simple pleasures of life and their love story was an inspiration to all who knew them.

She also leaves behind her brothers, Mark Coleman, Larry (Tessie) Coleman, Terry (Linda) Coleman, and Greg (Sandy) Coleman. Their bond was unbreakable, and they shared countless moments of laughter, camaraderie, and mutual support. Their shared history and love for each other was evident in the way they remained connected throughout their lives.

An avid pool player, Maureen was involved in many pool leagues, where she not only showcased her skill but also formed lifelong friendships. Her competitive spirit and sportsmanship were infectious, and she was a well-respected player within the league. She was also passionate about playing softball, a hobby that kept her active and brought her immense joy.

Maureen has been taken for cremation with a memorial service planned for a later date. McWilliams Funeral Home has assisted the family.
