Louis Galen Ruder, age 81, formerly of Lakeland, Florida died Nov. 22, 2021, at MediLodge of Alpena due to Parkinson’s Disease.

Louis was born on Jan. 23, 1940, in Pittsford, Michigan to the late Willis Andrew and May Rosetta (Teachout) Ruder. He attended grade school in Pittsford then graduated from Bryan (Ohio) High School in 1958. He served as a member of the Air Force. He worked designing church furniture for Sauder Furniture Company in Archibald, Ohio. For a time, he operated a gallery and a shop, Arts Unlimited, in Defiance, Ohio in which he taught classes and sold his and other artists’ paintings. He was a member of the Third Order Discalced Carmelites in Lakeland, Florida.

Louis is survived by his brother, Harold, and close cousins, Ann-Marie Ruder, Leon Ruder, and Arlene Green. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jimmy, and Bernard. The family wishes to thank MidMichigan Medical Center of Alpena and especially MediLodge of Alpena for their care of Louis.

A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2021, at St. Anne All Saints Parish at 1 p.m. with visitation beginning at noon. Fr. Michael Lingaur officiating. Interment will follow at Presque Isle Twp. Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers please consider a donation to St. Vincent de Paul. McWilliams Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
