EDWARD D. NELSON

Edward D. Nelson, 72, of Alpena went quietly into the arms of his Lord while surrounded by his family at home on March 27, 2021. He was born on July 30, 1948 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Edward and Helen (Schleiger) Nelson. Eddie graduated from Carrolton High School in 1965 before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he honorably served his country as a Sergeant in the 1st Air Cavalry Division during Vietnam. He met the love of his life, Joyce Seegmiller and the two were married on March 30, 1984. They were blessed with 37 years of happiness together.

Eddie retired from the GM Bay City Plant after 30 years and was the owner/operator of E&D Tree Service, serving the Saginaw and Alpena areas for over 35 years. He was a member of Shoreline Wesleyan Church of Alpena and a proud member of the Long Lake Association where he enjoyed participating in the fishing derby helping kids bait and reel fish in. Eddie enjoyed deer and rabbit hunting, fishing – especially with his son-in-law Craig, with the two of them catching many trophy walleye, tree work, and yelling “Mutha Hubbard” to anyone or anything he was frustrated with. He also enjoyed spending time with his long-time school friends, Al, Kathy and Marty, chatting with his neighbor buddy Ken, and spending winters in Florida with Joyce. He will be dearly missed by his special fur buddy “Benny” that never left his side.

Eddie is survived by his wife Joyce, his son Ron (Hollie) Rohloff, two daughters, Jessica (Brent) Werner, Sarah (Craig) Gushow, six grandchildren, Treyton and Tessa Rohloff, Carter and Lauren Gushow, Payton and Ethan Werner, and several brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by Pops, Nunny, Uncle Bill and Aunt June. Per Eddies wishes, he has been taken from McWilliams Funeral Home for cremation with a celebration of his life to take place at a later date. Online condolences can be registered at mcwilliamsfh.com.
