LEONARD JOHN ZIELINSKI

Leonard was 78 years old when he died Jan. 7, 2020 surrounded by family at home.

Leonard was born on Nov. 8, 1941 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Lewis Zielinski and Julianna (Kobza) Zielinski.

He grew up in Flint, Michigan and attended Sacred Heart High School in Flint. Leonard also attended classes at GMI, Michigan State University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Leonard married Kathleen Kujacznski on June 15, 1963.

Leonard sat on the Board of Directors of Blue Care Network, a Michigan HMO. He was a Pension and Insurance Representative of UAW Local 659. He was active in establishing both Blue Care Network and Health Plus of Michigan.

He served on the Township Zoning Board of Appeals of Presque Isle Township, Michigan and on the Board of Directors of Seaside Resort, in Big Coppitt Key, Florida.

He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus of Owosso, Michigan.

An active outdoorsman, in the 1960s Leonard co-founded the Flint Retriever Club and was a passionate trainer of Labrador Retrievers. He was featured with his retriever, Kim, on an episode of the “Michigan Out of Doors” television program.

Leonard was preceded in death by his mother and father, his recently deceased brother, Theodore, and his sister Geraldine.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughter Julia, sons Chris and Len, grandson Storm and son-in-law Rick.

A mass for Leonard will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 630 S. West Silver Lake Road, Traverse City, Michigan, 49685.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Leonard’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
