ROBERT ALAN BALL

Robert Alan Ball, 72, passed away at his home on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019.

Mr. Ball was born on April 7, 1946 in Jackson, Mich., to Robert A. Whedon Sr. and Luella M. (Green) Dawson. He was raised by his adoptive father David G. Ball. He is survived by his mother, Luella (Green) Dawson of Lansing, Mich.; stepfather, Richard Dawson Sr.; son, Scott Ball of Lansing; stepchildren, Sara (Josh) Hoch, April (Nick) Cadarette of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Abby Hoch, Noah Hoch, Gavin Cadarette; siblings, Carol Ball of Terre Haute, Ind., Ronald Ball of Williamston; stepbrother, Richard (Carol) Dawson of St. Louis, Mo.; stepsisters, Charlotte (Benny) Howard of Birmingham, Ala., and Diane Dawson of Lansing; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ball served his country in the United States Marine Corps. during the Vietnam era. He retired from the State of Michigan, Motor Transport Division of DMB. In his earlier years he was a volunteer fireman, coach of youth sports, officiated both high school and college basketball and high school football. He was an avid fan of short track racing of both midget and sprint cars, officiating in those sports as well.

There is no memorial service. Inurnment will be at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Mich.
