RITA JOYCE GLOMSKI

Rita Joyce Glomski, age 91, of Long Lake, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017. She will begin her eternal life with God.

Nov. 4, 1925, Rita was born in Alpena, Mich., to the late Philip and Rose (Filipiak) Kowalski. She married Gabriel “Gabe” Glomski on May 6, 1946, at St. Mary Catholic Church by Mgsr. John Gatzke and together they had nine children. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 2000. Rita was a librarian for St. Mary Catholic Church for 18 years, retiring in 1987. She was a Director of Religious Education at St. Mary’s School for 12 years and assisted at St. Mary’s rectory as often as possible, a Eucharist minister and part time wedding cake baker. Rita enjoyed all kinds of crafting from scrapbooking for family, oil painting, needlepoint, quilting and much more, which she often donated to the St. Mary’s Christmas Bazzar. She was also a member of All Saints Rosary Group #18.

She is survived by her seven children, Phillip (Linda) of Oscoda, Mich., Thomas (Elizabeth) of Alpena, Mich., Roseanne Miller of Dewitt, Mich., Mark of Alpena, Mich., Christopher of Alpena, Mich., Kathryn (Wendell) Gibbs of Justin, Texas, and Gerald (Glenda) of Argyle, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Jeanette (Ed) Schaller of South Carolina, Gerald “Jerry” (Donna) Kowalski, and Joseph (Julie Burke) Kowalski both of Alpena, Mich., two sisters-in-law Dianne Kowalski and Jane Kowalski; and several nieces and nephews.

Rita was preceded in death by two sons, James and Larry Glomski; two brothers, Harold “John” and Anthony Kowalski; along with one sister, Rosalie Hampton; and one son-in-law, James Miller.

Family and friends will gather for visitation at Karpus-Hunter Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, from 2-8 p.m. Rosary Society will recite the Rosary at 3 p.m. and a Parish Wake Service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church of All Saints Parish from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial begins with Fr. Scott Lawler officiating.

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery

In lieu of flowers charitable donations may be made to Hospice of Michigan at 145 N. State Avenue, Alpena, MI 49707 or the All Saints Schools in memory of Rita.
