ELIZABETH M. KWIATKOSKI

Elizabeth “Betty” M. Kwiatkoski, age 91 of Cheboygan passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017 at Tendercare. She was born Jan. 30, 1926 in Cheboygan, the daughter of Alvin and Catherine (Fenlon) Sova. On Nov. 29, 1945 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Betty married Eugene “Gene” Kwiatkoski who preceded her in death in August of 2007.

Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella and had served as their Regent. In 1972, during the Black Lake Sturgeon Shiveree, she speared the biggest Sturgeon and was named Sturgeon King. Betty was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and was known as “Grandma Betty” to her large extended family and friends. She enjoyed dancing, bowling, cooking, fishing and flower gardening and was known for her beautiful roses. She was the oldest sister of the “Sova Gals.”

Survivors include her daughters, Valerie Bloom and Susan (Bill) Jewell, both of Cheboygan, Betty Jean (Marvin) Brown of Ossineke; her sons, Bob (Amy) Kwiatkoski of Cheboygan and Shige Kazu Amano of Tokyo, Japan; seven siblings, Barb (John) Archambo and Mitt (Betty) Sova, both of Cheboygan, Glenn “Gummy” Sova of Fla., and Mary Gaynor, Sharon “Shody” LaHaie, Bill (Annette) Sova and Sandy Beard, all of Cheboygan; 10 grandchildren, Judi, Rene, Kelly, Kim, Tracy, Tammi, Billy, Josh, Rebekah and Katie; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband Gene, Betty was preceded in death by her son, David, her brother, Clarence and her grandson, Jeremiah Brown.

Visitation will take place at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home today, Monday, Aug. 28 from 3-5 p.m .and 6-8 p.m. with the Daughters of Isabella praying the rosary beginning at 7 p.m. The funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Riggsville with the family greeting friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Duane Wachowiak will officiate and burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
