Recreation Passport fees hike $1 this year

The fee for a Recreation Passport — the money many Michiganders pay when renewing their vehicle registration to gain access to more than 100 state parks — will rise to $12 on March 1, a $1 hike over the current rates and the first increase since January 2013, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said.

The increase is tied to inflation and triggered by state law.

The fees account for about a quarter of state park revenue, the DNR said.
