ALPENA — In July 2025, troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post began investigating a criminal sexual conduct (CSC) complaint that occurred in Green Township in Alpena County.

During the investigation, troopers learned that 78-year-old Thomas Serino of Vanderbilt is a known landlord in the Gaylord, Vanderbilt, and Hubbard Lake areas. It was discovered that Serino allegedly sexually assaulted an adult female tenant on two separate occasions.

On Dec. 30, Serino was arrested on criminal sexual conduct charges and transported to the Alpena County Jail, where he was lodged without incident.

Serino was arraigned on Jan. 2 in the 88th District Court in Alpena County on charges of one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct- Second Degree and one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct- Second Degree Assault.
