CHEBOYGAN – Consumers Energy is letting customers in nine Northern Michigan counties know that assistance to help them stay safe, comfortable and warm is available today.

The nonprofit Superior Watershed Partnership is enrolling eligible customers today in Consumers Energy’s CARE program, which helps households stay on top of their energy bills. The program is one of several ways Consumers Energy is helping the public this winter.

The Superior Watershed Partnership is actively supporting Consumers Energy customers in Alpena, Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, Leelanau, Montmorency, Otsego and Presque Isle counties.

“People are frustrated by the costs of everything from food to housing, health care to energy. It’s real, and it’s a daily challenge for people. We get that,

and as an energy provider, we are sensitive to it,” said Lauren Snyder, Consumers Energy’s senior vice president and chief customer and growth officer. “It’s why we’re working actively to reduce costs and connect people with dollars that make a difference in their lives.”

Consumers Energy is helping customers on the heels of this winter’s record cold snap. The company provided $5 million to 11 nonprofit organizations, is reaching out to seniors, and is promoting the availability of the Home Heating Credit and other resources to help with costs.

To enroll in CARE through the Superior Watershed Partnership, Consumers Energy customers can call 2-1-1, a free resource that connects families with nonprofits and resources. Customers will also be asked to apply for state emergency relief and to complete an application and the pre-needs assessment:
