Alpena girls tennis team splits match with Gaylord, 3-3

ALPENA — The Alpena High School girls tennis team demonstrated noticeable improvement in a competitive matchup against the Gaylord Blue Devils on Monday at the Wildcats’ home courts, ending the day with an even 3-3 split.
In singles action, Gabriella Tolan led the way with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win, showcasing consistent control throughout her match.
Prashali Chhapamohan also delivered a strong performance, earning a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 victory.
While Avery Bates fell 2-6, 1-6, her effort contributed to a much-improved team performance compared to their previous meeting with Gaylord.
In doubles play, Jaeda Krautheim and Tori Burns teamed up to secure an impressive 8-4 win.

Despite tough losses for the pairings of Katherine Eller and Ava Ogilvie (0-8) and Lyra Knowlton and Claire Caplis (0-6, 1-6), the Wildcats showed resilience and energy throughout the matches.
“We won three and lost three. Good day of growth,” said head coach Charlie Giordano. “We all played so much better than last time we played them. So proud of the growth this year.”
The Wildcats continued to build momentum as the season progressed.
Monday’s match puts a cap on this year’s season for the Wildcats.
