Woman, 21, arrested for operating while intoxicated after single-vehicle crash

On May 5, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Michigan State Police troopers from the Alpena Post responded to Long Rapids Road near Dietz Road for a single vehicle crash that was reportedly on fire, according to an email from Spl/Lt. Ashley Miller, seventh district public information officer for the MSP.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a Chevrolet, driven by a 21-year-old woman, was traveling west on Long Rapids Road when she attempted to negotiate a curve and lost control of the vehicle.

The front of the vehicle started on fire; however, the woman and a young child she was transporting were able to exit the vehicle prior to the troopers’ arrival.

The woman was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation before being arrested. The juvenile did not report any injuries but was transported to the hospital by a family member for an evaluation.

The woman was arraigned on May 8 in the 88th District Court in Alpena for one count of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI), one count of Operating While Intoxicated with a person less than 16 years old, and one count of Operating – Violation of License Restrictions.
