According to an Alcona County Sheriff’s Office press release, there was a two-vehicle crash with injuries on M-72 east of Stockton Road in Gustin Township on Thursday. Vehicle 2 started on fire, and the occupants escaped through the driver’s side window before a deputy arrived.

The Friday press release states that both vehicles were traveling westbound on M-72. Vehicle 1 was driven by a 53-year-old female from Port Huron, and Vehicle 2 was driven by a 47-year-old male from Wyoming, Mich.

The crash occurred when Vehicle 1 attempted to turn left and Vehicle 2 attempted to pass, resulting in the collision. Vehicle 2 flipped on its side, skidded across the roadway, and started on fire, according to the press release. The Lincoln Fire Department, Barton City Fire Department, and Michigan Department of Natural Resources were dispatched to the scene. Personnel were able to contain the fire.

The 53-year-old female was transported to MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena for non-life-threatening injuries by Alcona EMS. The occupants of Vehicle 2 were not injured. Ultimately, the 47-year-old male driver of Vehicle 2 was found at fault in the crash and was issued a citation, the press release said.
