ALPENA — The annual Support Committee of MyMichigan Health Foundation recently hosted Clays for a Cause, a sporting clay shooting event that included 12 shooting stations, raffles, a 50/50 drawing, and a luncheon. The shoot raised funds for the installation of a new, dedicated ultrasound system for the Breast Health Suite at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena, according to a press release from MyMichigan Health. The fundraiser collected $7,120 that will be directed to the cost of the new piece of equipment.

Ten teams of up to four shooters each participated in the event which took place at the Alpena Sportsmen’s Club. Each team traversed the course having the opportunity to hit clay targets at different stations throughout the club’s property.

Lead sponsors for the event were Besser Company and Wolverine State Credit Union. Several other businesses sponsored the event including AssuredPartners, Alpena Power Company, Cliff Anschuetz Chevrolet, Huron Dist. Inc. and Huron Engineering and Surveying, Inc.

Ann Diamond, director of MyMichigan Health Foundation, thanked the sponsors and participants.

“Clays for a Cause is a unique event which raises funds for the Alpena Cancer Center while celebrating a well-loved pastime here in northern Michigan – clay shooting,” she said. “We hold the event during the fall each year, helping to prepare hunters for small and large game season. It gives our participants a fun outing to support an important cause. We are so thankful that we have such a generous sporting community here in northeast Michigan. We are also very grateful to our many sponsors and participants, as well as the Sportsman’s Club and the Alpena Clay Busters for hosting the event.”
