PREP ROUNDUP: Alcona runners compete, football wins

Alcona High School’s cross country team participated in the Northern Michigan Meet of Champions on Saturday morning, and the weather was perfect for running. Cole Upper finished with a time of 18:12, placing 61st out of 239 runners, while Darren Boyat achieved a season-best time of 18:47, finishing 86th.

This week, the team will focus on preparing for Regionals, which will take place in East Jordan on Saturday.

ALCONA football DEFEATS ROGERS CITY 73-6

Alcona High School was victorious over Rogers City High School on Friday by a score of 73-6.

The first quarter saw the Tigers score four TDs: Garrett Somers to William Liebler for the first, Evan Woods for the second, Brandon Fogle for the third, Somers to Liebler for the fourth, and Somers on a 22-yard run.

The second quarter saw the Tigers add five more TDs. First was Travis Walker on a one-yard catch. Then Ricky Schott on a 22-yard TD catch, followed by Karsen Gonyea on a 29-yard TD catch.

The scoring was finished up by Somers to Evan Borsvold and Ricky Schott who ran in from three yards out.

The Tigers’ defense was also on the prowl led by Keegan Ritchie who had 11 tackles. The defense created seven takeaways on the way to the Homecoming victory.
