Nearly 5,000 still without power across Northeast Michigan after wind pummeled area

Most of the more than 6,000 Alpena Power Co. and Presque Isle Electric and Gas Co-op customers who lost power because of Friday’s high winds remain without power, according to outage maps maintained by the two utility providers.

As of about 9 a.m. today, 4,777 customers of the two companies were without power, including 1,238 Alpena Power Co. customers and 3,534 PIE&G customers.

With the winds gone and sun shining, crews were out working to restore power.

On Friday evening, outages hit more than 6,000 across Northeast Michigan because of heavy winds in the area.

Police scanner traffic revealed numerous downed trees across roadways and downed trees on power lines catching fire across Northeast Michigan.
