ALPENA — Brad Mousseau, previously the assistant manager of the Alpena recycling facility on M-32, has taken over as manager after Stan Mischley decided to step down from his position in February.

This was discussed briefly at Thursday’s Northeast Michigan Materials Management Authority meeting.

Mousseau started working at the recycling facility as a worker in the plastic region of the building, then became an assistant manager around 2014.

“I have a lot more on my plate, now,” Mousseau said with a grin. “I’m feeling great going into this position and I’m feeling confident that I can really turn this place around.”

Nobody has taken on the assistant manager role in Mousseau’s place, and the board will need to review the authority’s budget before deciding whether it will be filled.

Mischley was unable to be reached for comment by The News, but Mousseau only had kind words to say for his former boss.

“He took over the manager spot when I was in my first year here and he’s a great, great guy,” Mousseau said. “We wouldn’t be where we are now without him and he deserves a good retirement.”

At the Thursday meeting, Mousseau introduced himself to the board and gave a report on how the facility was doing. Currently, the facility will need to test a new baler that was installed, but the power cord was removed, so Mousseau will need to replace that.

Otherwise, the facility has not seen much contamination and is functioning well.
