ALPENA — Food media company America’s Best Restaurants stopped by Alpena restaurant the Nest for food sampling, shooting video, and building a marketing strategy on Monday.

America’s Best Restaurants is an international company that has different teams of videographers, producers, and hosts going to different locations to film episodes. Episodes are reminiscent of Food Network shows as they taste test various food samples and share the story of the restaurants.

Something that separates America’s Best from the Food Network is its helpful tips and marketing strategies given to lesser-known eateries.

According to Jacalyn Mains, a host of America’s Best, the media company gave the Nest around 100 different media packs to help market its name.

“The food is fantastic,” Mains said. “They make everything from scratch. You ‘ve got to give them props for that.”

The company’s arrival was anticipated, as the Nest’s Facebook page announced that America’s Best would share their story. The restaurant’s posts following the announcement counted down the days until their arrival and asked patrons to recommend certain foods in the comments.

The Nest’s episode is predicted to publish on Facebook and YouTube within the next few months.

“You have to try the (Dr. PB&J),” Mains said. “It’s this burger with peanut butter and jelly on it, and it was so good!”

Mains said that, if anyone has other restaurants around Alpena that they recommend, they should go to America’s Best’s website, americasbestrestaurants.com, and nominate the location via email.

America’s Best Restaurants has visited 23 different states, including 43 restaurants in Michigan, the Nest included.

Mains said the team drove from their main office in Florence, Kentucky. The drive took eight hours and, once the crew finished filming in Alpena, they headed toward Rosa’s Lookout Inn in Spruce.
