Wildcats win Palmer Invite

INDIAN RIVER — The Alpena High School boys golf team traveled to Indian River Golf Club for the Chuck Palmer Invitational Saturday.
Alpena took first place, with a team score of 328, and also had five players earn individual medals.
Senior Easton Schultz led the team with an 80, good for second place individually. Gavin Hamp and Harrison Kaszubowski tied for fourth overall with a pair of 82s; Avery Spicer took seventh with an 84; Bryce Moe finished ninth with an 85, and Preston Schuldt rounded out the scoring with a 99.
Alpena’s next tournament is the two-day TC Tee-Off, on Friday and Saturday at Crystal Mountain Resort.

Alpena competes in Lake Orion
LAKE ORION — The Alpena High softball team competed in four games last weekend in Lake Orion.
On Friday, the Wildcats (4-4) played a single game with Lake Orion and lost 12-2.
On Saturday, Alpena competed in the Lake Orion Tournament in three games. Alpena lost to Lapeer 11-3 and defeated Grosse Pointe North 4-3 and ended the day with a 3-2 win over DeWitt.
Alpena hosts Cheboygan on Wednesday.
Rogers City goes 1-1 in Holton
HOLTON — The Rogers City softball team went 1-1 on Saturday in a tournament in Holton.
In its first game, Rogers City lost 5-2 to No. 2 Holton.
Taylor Krentz took the loss for Rogers City, allowing five runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. She also had two hits.
Kaitlin Nowicki had two hits, including a triple and two RBI for the Hurons.
In the second game, Rogers City defeated Hillman 7-4, rallying from an early 4-0 deficit.
Krentz earned the win and Calley Rhode had a three-run home run.
