GRAND RAPIDS — The Alpena Community College cross country team finished its season at its Regional meet held at Calvin College on Saturday.
“Overall we had a good day as a team,” ACC coach Mark Jacobs said. “For the season, I couldn’t be prouder of what these young men accomplished both on and off the course. In the past ten years, I’ve coached lots of outstanding student-athletes and teams. This team will go down as one of my all-time favorites. Their work ethic was fantastic throughout the year. We started the season without knowing each other and we ended the season as family for life. To me that says it all.”
Adam Wolffis (Montague) led the team with his fifth consecutive top-team finish. Wolffis was followed by Jacob Kochanski (Alpena), Matt Wilbert (Rogers City), Corbin Thering (Freeland), Matt Mundy (Sault Ste. Marie) and Austin Smith (Portage).
“Our season was better than I could ever imagined,” Jacobs said. “I’ll miss the guys (Wolffis and Smith) who will be graduating this year. They brought a lot to the table with their leadership. It’s also great to hear my returnees already setting goals for next season.”
