ALPENA — A man accused of impeding an Alpena murder investigation will continue toward trial after giving up his right to demand proof he may have committed a crime.

Attorneys on Wednesday waived a preliminary examination that would have shed light on charges filed by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office against Bruce Kinsey last month.

The Attorney General’s Office charged Kinsey with lying about where he picked up Brad Srebnik and Joshua Wirgau on an unspecified date.

Law enforcement have called Srebnik and Wirgau suspects in the 2021 deaths of Alpena women Abby Hill and Brynn Bills.

Nobody has been charged in the deaths.

Alpena County Prosecutor Cynthia Muszynski said last week she is working with the Attorney General’s Office in investigating Kinsey.

State Assistant Attorney General Danielle Hagaman-Clark, who appeared at Wednesday’s abbreviated hearing, would not comment on why the Attorney General’s Office is involved with the investigation into Bills’ and Hill’s deaths.

Judge Alan Curtis in Alpena’s 88th District Court bound Kinsey over to the 26th Circuit Court, where Kinsey will appear in coming weeks.
