ALPENA — Summer break at Alpena Public Schools starts this Friday.

For many students in our community, that means their main source of nutrition is no longer available to them. Students that are used to getting 10 meals a week through their school, which will now be closed for the break, may need to find additional food support.

These community partners provide meals at no cost in order to reduce hunger for school-aged kids in our community.

• The Friendship Room at St. Bernard’s, 322 W. Chisholm St. There are no age restrictions, and meals are available year-round. Hours are 4 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 989-354-8018.

• The Boys and Girls Club of Alpena, 601 River St. This program is for ages 19 and younger. There is no cost for food and snacks. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with lunch served at 12:30 p.m. and a snack at 4 p.m. For more information, call 989-356-0214.

• The Salvation Army of Alpena Food and Hygiene Pantry is available at 722 N. 2nd Ave. Please call for an appointment. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 989-358-2769.

• St. Vincent de Paul, 2635 U.S.-23 South, Alpena. Drive-up food support is available from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Call 989-354-3671.

• Beaver Lake Church Food Pantry is available by appointment at 9007 M-65 South, Lachine. Call 989-379-4123.

• Trinity Episcopal Church at 124 E. Washington Ave. offers Sunday Supper carryout meals from 4 to 5 p.m. each Sunday. All are welcome. The food pantry is available by appointment. Call 989-356-0576.

• Grace Lutheran Food Pantry is open 24/7, with an outdoor box and inside cabinet in the entrance to the church building at 119 Dunbar St.
