LAPEER — Mason Bray is one step closer to the state wrestling finals.

The Alpena senior qualified for individual regionals after finishing fourth in a Division 1 regional in Lapeer last week.

Wrestling in the 171-pound weight class, Bray earned two wins by pin and improved to 44-4 on the year.

He will compete Saturday at a regional at Midland Dow for a chance to reach the state finals. Bray competed in the 160-pound weight class last year and finished third in the regional. After an opening-round loss, he rebounded and earned three wins, including two pins, to earn a spot in the finals.

Also on Saturday, Gunner Spencer (285) narrowly missed a place at the regional tournament with two wins and two losses on the day. Conner Sauve (135) also competed at the tournament with one loss, but finished up his first wrestling season with a 20-17 record.
