OSSINEKE ― Police today released the name of a man who barricaded himself in an Ossineke home during a several-hour standoff on Thursday.
The News reported on Friday that police had surrounded the home and negotiated with a man while his wife barricaded herself in an upstairs room after the man threatened to hurt her.
A judge in the 88th District Court arraigned Mark Dwayne Deckard, 53, on Monday on charges of domestic violence, unlawful imprisonment, felony firearm, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder related to the incident.
According to police, Deckard called 911 around 4 p.m. Thursday to report that his wife, whom he accused of prior abuse, was intoxicated, according to police.
The woman called later to report Deckard had choked and pointed a gun at her and taken her hostage.
Michigan State Police-Alpena Post troopers set up a perimeter around the home. Deckard refused to come out for several hours, police said.
Called to assist, negotiators from the MSP Emergency Support Team talked to Deckard while the woman talked to 911 dispatchers from another part of the house. When Deckard surrendered around 9 p.m., according to scanner reports, police arrested him and transported the woman to MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena for non-life threatening injuries.
He next appears in court on Nov. 15 and is held on a $500,000 bond.
