Local government roundup: Mayor Waligora proclaims October Breast Cancer Awareness Month

ALPENA

At its Sept. 20 meeting the Alpena Municipal Council took the following action.

∫ Mayor Waligora proclaimed October Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

∫ City Manager Rachel Smolinski presented a request by Hope Network for a Payment in Lieu of Tax (PILOT) for the vacant building located at 555 W. Fifth Avenue. The building was the former Bingham School. Hope Network plans to remodel and add on to the existing building. Council took no action.

ALPENA TOWNSHIP

At its meeting on Sept. 14 the board of trustees took the following action.

∫ approved extending a letter of agreement with the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1859 regarding a staffing shortage at the fire department. The three-month deal expires on Dec. 31.

∫ Mac McClelland, of Mac Consulting Service LLC, addressed the board regarding consulting for the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and EGLE grants for the Aldi development.

∫ Chelsea McConnell, a certified public accountant for Straley, Lamp & Kraenzlein P.C., presented the trustees with the annual audit report.

∫ The board was presented with a Disposal of Fixed Assets list for turnout gear from former fighter fighters Bruce Honeycutt and Ken Piper. Moved by Trustee Steve Lappan and supported by Treasurer Laura Ellery-Somers to approve the disposal of the gear.
