Winfield trial jury deliberations enter second day

ALPENA — Jurors in the sex assault trial of former Alpena Public Schools teacher Heather Winfield left the courthouse at 5 p.m. Wednesday, suspending deliberations after eight hours of examining voluminous evidence and witness testimony.

Winfield faces accusations of sexually assaulting a former student when he was between 11 and 13 years old. She faces up to life in prison.

The News does not identify alleged survivors of sexual assault.

The jury began deliberations early Wednesday morning on the 12th day of the trial. They were expected to resume deliberations at 8:30 a.m. today in Alpena’s 26th Circuit Court.
