PREP ROUNDUP: Posen softball advances to district semis; Hillman softball wins Little Dipper

The Posen softball team got the postseason off to a dominating start on Tuesday, topping Wolverine 19-0 in a Division 4 predistrict game.
Posen will play Rogers City at 10 a.m. Saturday in a district semifinal in Rogers City.
The Vikings scored 17 runs in the first inning Tuesday and never looked back. Posen then added two runs in the second inning.
Ava Wesner led Posen with two hits and a pair of RBI. Lizzy Romel had a hit and four RBI and Abi Schellie and Faith Cousins each had a hit. Posen had just five hits for the game, but showed patience at the plate after drawing 12 walks.
Makayla Kamyszek earned the win, pitching a perfect three innings while striking out five.
Hillman wins Little Dipper title
HILLMAN — The Hillman softball team split a pair of games with Au Gres on Wednesday, but still walked away with the North Star League’s Little Dipper title.
Au Gres took the first game 6-3 and Hillman won the nightcap 12-0.
In the opener, Julia Taratuta had two hits and two RBI for Hillman (20-18) and Melanie Morrison had a hit and an RBI.
In the second game, Nicole Barbeau threw five innings, allowing three hits and striking out six.
Brooke Bennett and Barbeau hit a double and a triple and Cassidy Benac and Kylee Green each had two hits.
On Tuesday, Hillman dropped a pair of non-conference games to Mancelona 6-1 and 3-1.
In the opener, Barbeau pitched for Hillman (19-17), allowing three earned runs and striking out seven.
At the plate, Benac and Jessica Jones each had a hit for Hillman.
In the second game, Barbeau allowed a hit, one earned run and struck out six. At the plate, Jones had a single and Morrison had a single and an RBI.
BASEBALL
Alpena sweeps Cheboygan
ALPENA — The Alpena baseball team wrapped up the regular season on a winning note, topping Cheboygan 6-2 and 12-8 in a Tuesday doubleheader.
In the opener, Alpena scored three runs in the third inning and then shut down a rally attempt by the Chiefs in the sixth inning. Cheboygan scored twice to make it 4-2 and Alpena responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Alpina scattered seven hits including a triple from Kadyn Budnik. Travis Weide had a hit and two RBI and Budnik, Keegan Hahn, Matt Thompson and Jake Zann each had one RBI.
Weide earned the win, allowing no runs on two hits and three walks with four strikeouts in five innings.
Cheboygan held a 6-4 lead after four and a half innings in the second game, but Alpena scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take control of the game.
Logan Momrik had two hits and two RBI for Alpena and Budnik had a hit and two RBI. Noah Marquardt and Hahn split pitching duties, allowing five earned runs on nine hits and three walks and eight strikeouts.
Oscoda tops Hillman
HILLMAN — Oscoda took a pair of games from the Hillman baseball team on Wednesday.
In the first game, Hillman lost 14-6. Caleb Hiveley took the loss for the Tigers (19-17-2), allowing six runs on eight hits with a strikeout and six walks.
At the plate for Hillman, Sean Henigan was 3-for-4 with a run scored; Aden Sobeck was 1-for-3 with two runs scored; Owen Moulton was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI; Edwin Hardies was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI and Jeff Klein was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
In the second game, Henigan took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) on three hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
AJ Jones had an RBI for Hillman, Sobeck was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Hiveley was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
On Tuesday, Hillman earned a win over Mio and also tied the Thunderbolts during a doubleheader.
In the opener, Hillman won 4-0. Jones earned the win, allowing three hits, walking two and striking out 11 in seven innings. He helped his own cause with a double, two RBIs and also scored a run.
Brady Firman had a single and an RBI for the Tigers; Sobeck was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Braylon Firman and Jaden Dove each had a hit.
In the nightcap Dove pitched for Hillman, allowing three runs (two earned) and a walk with eight strikeouts in five innings.
At the plate, Dove had a double; Sobeck was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and three RBI; Brady Firman was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI; Henigan had two singles and Trenton Taratuta had a single and scored once.
