HUBBARD LAKE — Firefighters are stomping out hotspots left from a fire near the Chippewa Hills Pathway that ignited Tuesday just before noon.

Firefighters from Hubbard Lake, Wilson and Sanborn townships, and Lincoln responded to the blaze and utilized tanker trucks to provide water into the woods, and grassfire-fighting equipment to slow the spread, and extinguish the blaze.

Alpena sent an ambulance to the scene as a precaution.

Scanner communication between fire officials said the fire spread to about four to five acres in size at its peak.

The fire comes as portions of Alpena County, and all of Alcona County, are now classified as being in moderate drought because of a lack of precipitation. There is small chance of rain Wednesday, and again on Monday.

It is unknown how the fire started.
