Officials report five new infections

ALPENA — Public health officials on Wednesday reported five newly infected or probably infected Northeast Michiganders, including four Alpena County residents and one Alcona County resident.

No new infections were reported for Presque Isle County residents and Montmorency County residents on Wednesday.

As of Feb. 18, local public health agencies have reported confirmed and suspected infections as one number.

Based on that data, 3,013 Northeast Michiganders have been confirmed or suspected infected since the pandemic hit Michigan in mid-March. Of those, 105 have died.

Meanwhile, District Health Department No. 4 will be holding a walk-in vaccination clinic today for individuals 60 and older who live in Alpena, Montmorency, Presque Isle, or Cheboygan counties. Open spots are available from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Individuals planning to attend the walk-in clinic will be greeted at the door and given a vaccination time. Individuals should bring a Michigan identification card for proof of age and insurance cards with them to the clinic.

State data showed that, as of Tuesday, 29,193 doses of coronavirus vaccine had been administered in Northeast Michigan.

As of Monday, no one was hospitalized at MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena with coronavirus infection, including in intensive care, according to state data. The hospital was 37% full.

As of Tuesday, 33 people were hospitalized with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 infection across the state-designated, 18-county health care region that includes Alpena, Presque Isle, and Montmorency counties, according to state data.

The last death was reported Friday.

Local public health officials have stopped tracking recoveries.
