Fire drill finds room for improvement
News Photo by Julie Riddle Firefighters from the Alpena Fire Department put away hoses after a fire drill at the Pinecrest Manor Apartments in Alpena on Thursday. The drill was one of seven to be conducted by Nov. 2 at area living complexes considered to be high-hazard buildings because of interior hallways. Many of the residents couldn’t hear the alarm through their doors during Thursday’s practice-run, alarms didn’t go off throughout the complex simultaneously, and some information on a map of the building was upside-down -- all reasons that fire drills are necessary and could save lives, said Capt. Andy Marceau, community risk reduction officer for the Alpena Fire Department.
