Tractor-trailer catches fire

News Photo by Crystal Nelson Firefighters with the Alpena Township Fire Department on Wednesday work to extinguish a tractor-trailer that caught on fire behind Stoney Acres Winery. Firefighters from both stations were dispatched at 8:14 p.m. Township Fire Chief Dave Robbins said they arrived to find the tractor-trailer fully engulfed in flames, but crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly and cleared the scene by 9:07 p.m. Robbins said the cause of the fire appeared to be accidental.  Amy Gagnon, business manager at Stoney Acres Winery, said her son was working on a side-by-side when it backfired and caught plastic wrap in the tractor-trailer on fire. She said the tractor-trailer contained empty pop bottles as well as patio decorations and umbrellas. No one was injured while fighting the fire. Maple Ridge Fire Department and the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office assisted township firefighters on scene.
