Dontez Ali Smith

A man who called 911 to complain he was being harassed ended up arrested for assaulting a man with a baseball bat.

Dontez Ali Smith, of Alpena, called police to report he was harassed inside an Alpena business on July 25. His story was debunked when video surveillance footage from the store showed Smith approaching another man while carrying a baseball bat as a weapon. Smith said the other man, not identified by police, had been emailing Smith’s fiancee.

The victim claims he doesn’t know Smith or his wife-to-be, according to a Michigan State Police news release.

Smith was arrested on Friday and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.
