Woman rescued at Rockport after breaking leg
ALPENA — A family hiking at Rockport State Recreation Area was rescued when one of their party, a 36-year-old woman, fractured her leg on the uneven terrain.
After emergency medical technicians from the Alpena Township Fire Department treated the woman’s injuries, paramedics from the Alpena Fire Department administered pain medication via intravenous injection and used a sled-like basket and a rope system to transport the victim off the rock hills about half a mile away from the parking area.
The woman was transported to MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena and is expected to make a full recovery.
CORRECTION: This story has been updated to reflect that the Alpena Fire Department administered pain medication to the patient. The agency was incorrect in an earlier version of this story.
