Area nonprofits, health or educational organizations and governments have until 4 p.m. Friday to submit applications for an up to $1,000 mini grant from the United Way of Northeast Michigan.

The funder said in a news release that grants will be giving to innovative programs that meet new community needs, take a new approach to meeting a previously identified need, or help an agency or community in an emergency.

The grants will fund programs, not overall operations of an entity, the news release said.
