Hillman road, bandshell projects advance

HILLMAN — There are going to be different projects completed in Hillman throughout the next couple of months. The Hillman Village Council discussed the projects during its meeting on Tuesday.

President Myron McIntire said the Montmorency County Road Commission is going to be fog-sealing Veterans Memorial Highway and the south end of State Street. That project is going to be completed either the last week of July or the first week of August.

“It’s needed badly,” McIntire said.

McIntire said progress is still being completed for the new bandshell at Emerick Park. The bandshell is still on schedule to be completed by VJ Day, which is Aug. 11.

“The floor is poured and some of the posts are up,” McIntire said. “Once they start building it and the posts get up, it won’t be long until it gets finished.”

The new boat dock at Emerick Park is also making progress. McIntire said it’s about halfway done and looking good.

“We probably won’t put it in this year now that it’s so late, because it would be senseless to haul one in and then put one in for a month,” he said.

Street conditions are looking good for the year, McIntire said. He said streets are looked at every spring, when the council completes its budget.

The council determines which streets need to be repaired. If a street looks like it hasn’t been repaired in a few years, the council puts it in the budget so it can be repaired that year.

“We do a little bit every year so that we don’t end up with a bunch one year and that way, we always keep them up to date,” McIntire said.
